A place created through the restoration of a historic complex, serving as a welcoming hub for those taking a leisurely journey through the Casentino region.
Case D’Arno is an historic farm complex located in the municipality of Poppi, in the village of Porrena, on the banks of the Arno River. A place that bears the scars of history, it was founded in the late 17th century and, over time, has been expanded with new additions, modifications, and functions that have shaped its current appearance.
And it couldn’t be any other way: Case D’Arno is located in an area that has always been traversed by merchants, pilgrims, wayfarers, and travelers, along routes that still connect the Casentino region with places steeped in history, faith, and the Apennine landscape.
The project addressed the need to restore a building of great historical and cultural significance, preserving its architectural identity and returning it to the community as a vibrant, accessible, and functional space.
The project was carried out in accordance with guidelines for restoration and conservation, highlighting the building’s history, the original walls, and the views of the surrounding landscape.
This story is the inspiration behind Case D’Arno’s new mission.
“Don’t hide the cracks of time, but acknowledge them and transform them into value, memory, and beauty.”
Today, Case D’Arno serves as a welcoming and informational hub for pilgrims, cyclists, and hikers traveling through the Casentino region on foot or by bike.
A thoughtful stop where you can pause, gather information, get back into the rhythm of slow travel, and forge a deeper connection with the local area.
The project provides spaces and resources for public use, designed to enhance the experience of travelers and foster a deeper understanding of the local area.
Case D’Arno is an open, inclusive, and accessible space that brings together the landscape, local communities, and travelers.
Case D’Arno is a project supported in part by PNRR funds, as part of a broader initiative focused on regional development and sustainability.
A place that evolves over time alongside the trails, the landscape, and the people who pass through it.
